Julia Elizabeth Cooter, 85, passed during the evening hours of Friday (February 21, 2020) at her home surrounded by her loving family. Julia was born on October 4, 1934 in Greene County to the late Dana & Betsy (Estep) Charlton.
“Liz” was known by Granny to most. She was very family oriented and enjoyed family game night which included playing cards, crocheting, camping, and traveling to the beach. She attended Bloomingdale Baptist Church for many years. “Liz” was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, “Liz” was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Harold Joe Cooter; son, Mark Cooter; sisters, Freda Bailey, Ilene Davis, Jean Phillips, and Faye McClain; and brothers, Kenneth Charlton and Bill Charlton.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debra Hanmer & husband Rob Hoffman and Betsy Linkous; son, Robert Cooter; sister, Ina Elkins & husband Bill, Daughter-in-law Brenda Cooter, Brother-in-law Bob Phillips and son Keenan (Kenny) Phillips; five grandsons, Michael Hanmer & wife Julie, Jonathan Hanmer, Joe Cooter & wife Amanda, Darren Hicks, and Chris Hicks & wife Carrie; six great-grandchildren, Tina Quillen & husband Matt, Carrianne Hanmer, Koda Hanmer, Camden Hicks, Chloe Cooter, and Laura Cooter; four great great-grandchildren, McKenna Quillen, Brionna Quillen, Jaxon Quillen, and Adalynn Hanmer; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday (February 26, 2020) from 5 to 7 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Elkins officiating.
Julia will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband on Thursday (February 27, 2020) at 1 p.m. in the Garden of Everlasting Life I at East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to your local humane society.
