Lawrence “Larry” Neil Lunan, 84, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on December 5, 2025. Born on June 19, 1941, in Los Angeles, CA, Larry was a loving husband and father, passionate entrepreneur, and respected veteran.
Larry married Susan Hill on January 9, 1982, in Boone, North Carolina. Together, they built a resilient family that weathered numerous hardships, all while being filled with love for one another. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Camille Reed; his father, Alvin Larry Lunan; his stepfather, Leo Jacob Molek; his half-sister, Ritchie Johnson; and his daughter, Victoria Morrisette. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; his son, John Lunan (wife Anna) of Charlotte, NC; and his daughters, Krista Lunan (Ty Bowman) of Mount Carmel, TN, Julie Lunan of Nashville, TN, and Leah Clark of Austin, TX. Additionally, he is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. Larry's family was the center of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A Vietnam veteran, Larry served in the Army, demonstrating courage and dedication to his country. He earned his California Certified Public Accountant license in 1968, marking the beginning of a successful career in finance. Larry worked with Haskins & Sells from 1967 to 1971 before becoming the controller and vice president of finance for Itel Leasing Corporation from 1971 to 1975. In 1975, he became the vice president of finance for Arcata Book Group. In 1982, he took on the role of president of Fors Capital Corporation, where he played a key role in the growth of development-stage companies. Following his passion for motorcycles, Larry founded Bad Toys, Inc. in 1995, focusing on designing and manufacturing custom motorcycles.
Larry’s life was defined by his love for hot rods and motorcycles—a passion that originated in his youth as a greaser on the streets of Los Angeles. What began as an intimate hobby blossomed into a driving professional ambition. Music was also a significant part of Larry’s life; he could often be found belting out timeless standards from Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. Additionally, he developed a deep fondness for reading, dedicating time each day to books on political discourse, philosophy, and history. Larry's family cherished all the different facets of his personality, recognizing that these diverse interests and traits combined to make him an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Larry Lunan will be remembered for his unwavering drive, intense desire to provide for his family, and his unexplainable ability to overcome the most daunting of odds. He experienced enough extraordinary events to encompass the lifetimes of several men. To truly appreciate the road he traveled, one would have to live it themselves, for it takes a remarkable man to navigate such a journey and emerge as the extraordinary individual we knew him to be. Larry will be deeply missed but remembered with much love and fondness by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. at East Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Isaacs officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park where military honors will be rendered by the Unites States Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team and the Hawkins County American Legion Post 21.
John Lunan, Corbin Bumgarner, Mason Bumgarner, Issacc Wittcop, Michael Quillen and Walker Gentry will serve as pallbearers. Jacob Gaynor, Lauren Bumgarner, Henry Lunan, and John Grafton Lunan will serve as honorary pallbearers.
