Leonce Richard Godbery

Leonce Richard Godbery, 83, of Kingsport, went to help Jesus take care of the little children in heaven on March 1, 2013. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was born in New Orleans, LA on October 16, 1929. After he met and married his wife of 61 years, Nancy Jane Haltom Godbery, they moved to Kingsport where they lived until his death. Leonce is retired from AFG where he was a millwright and from the Tennessee National Guard, where he was a mess sergeant. Leonce was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed the time spent with family, friends, little kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a great encourager and would often spend time helping others. Leonce was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and James Godbery; brother, James W. Godbery and sister, Marie O’Rourke. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane; son, Wayne Godbery of Kingsport, daughters, Nancy Steadman and Janet Sams, grandsons, Joshua Steadman and Ashley, Jessie Steadman, Chris Sams, great-grandkids, Peyton Steadman, Titus Hite and Taylin Steadman all of Kingsport. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
