Maggie Gay McQueen

Maggie Gay McQueen, 90, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Brookhaven Nursing Home. Mrs. McQueen was born on May 8, 1924 in Deskins, Virginia, the daughter of the late Charlie Parot Cook and Bessie Osborn Cook. Mrs. McQueen was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was saved on July 3, 1957 and loved her church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. Mrs. McQueen started her career in 1947 as a Telephone Operator with Sprint and retired in 1983 with 36 years service. During this time she thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Telephone Pioneers Club and she enjoyed helping this club do all the projects they did within the community. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McQueen was preceded in death by her husband, James McQueen on February 14, 2014; her father and mother-in-law, James C. McQueen and Pearl McFarland McQueen; three brothers, Arnold Cook, McKinley Cook and Toy Cook; and two sisters, Gladys Dickson and Bea Colley. Survivors include one step son, Michael McQueen; one step daughter, Linda Wines and husband Bob; four step grandchildren, Robert Wines, Charles Wines, Jennifer Wines and Seth McQueen; six step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:00pm in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Randy Pressnell officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Mausoleum at East Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to say a special thanks to all the staff at Brookhaven Nursing Home for the care given to Mrs. McQueen.
