Nina Lee Steffey Tipton Greene, born May 8, 1927 in Dante, Virginia, went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, on May 6, 2010 in Meadville, Pennsylvania after a long illness.
Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Ray Tipton Sr.; her parents, James Droke Steffey Sr. and Kate Beatrice McConnell Steffey; brothers, James Droke Steffey Jr., William A. Steffey, and Hubert “Strawberry” Steffey; and sisters Alice June Steffey, Lois Phillips, and Betty Joe Pratt Hicks.
Nina is survived by her husband, Gerald S. Greene; sons, Alfred R. Tipton, Jr. and wife Teresa, and James W. “Jay” Tipton and wife Teresa; grandchildren, James W. Tipton, Jr. and wife Rebecca, Jerrod S. Tipton and wife Crissy, Alexa Nicole “Niki” Tipton, Tia D. Tipton, and Joshua R. Tipton; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers Lilburn J. “L. J.” Steffey, Howard T. “Ted” Steffey, sisters Louella P. Jessee and Alma Merita “Rita” Bales and husband, Joe; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Prior to her marriage to Gerald Greene on July 22, 1977 and subsequent move to Pennsylvania, Nina was an administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Sullivan County Schools. She also had worked as an administrative assistant at Lynn Garden Elementary School.
Nina loved the Lord and made a confession of faith on July 1, 1947. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania she was an active and faithful member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.
Nothing in this world was more precious to Nina than her family. Her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. However, her love extended beyond her immediate family to her many friends and extended family. To know Nina was to love her.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday (May 10, 2010) at East Lawn Funeral Home. Services will follow at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel with Ministers George Jessee and Jimmy Pratt officiating. Burial will follow graveside services at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (May 11, 2010) in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
