Paul Edward Sarnoff

A Memorial Service will be held for Paul E. Sarnoff of Kingsport TN will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Fall Creek Baptist Church, 1600 Fall Creek Road, Kingsport, TN with Pastor Victor T. Haynes officiating. Paul passed away on March 4, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Virginia Sarnoff.

Surviving are his son Burton and wife Edythe of Aspers, PA; two daughters, Julie Hyatt and her husband John of Kingsport and Elaine Southerland and her husband Larry of Winston Salem; three granddaughters, Alice Hyatt Salyer, Margaret Jane Sarnoff and Felicity Anne Sarnoff; two great-granddaughters, Sylvia Lane and Greta Lane along with one niece, three nephews and several cousins.

Mr. Sarnoff was elected to the staff of the Prudential Insurance Company of America, attaining the rank of Vice President and Associate Actuary. He served the company for over 41 years in Financial Reporting and Distribution of Surplus. He retired in 1990. The Company’s Financial Library is named for him and dedicated in his honor.

He was a 1948 graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree with High Distinction, in Mathematics. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society.

Mr. Sarnoff was a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He served as member of several Life Insurance industry committees: The Actuarial and Financial Principles Committees of the Society of Actuaries and of the American Academy of Actuaries, and the Actuarial Committee of the American Council of Life Insurance. He also served on the Society of Actuaries Committee on Papers and advanced to be Chairman of that committee.

A native of New Jersey, he returned to that state after earning his degree. Upon retiring, he and his wife Jane moved from Basking Ridge, New Jersey to their home in Kingsport.
