Ruth V. Bryant, 99, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, November 4, 2019. Born in Ft. Blackmore, VA, September 28, 1920. She was the daughter of the late John R. Moore and Elizabeth Gilliam Moore and granddaughter of Judge John A. Moore.
She retired from nursing after 25 years, working at Indian Path Hospital, Holston Valley Medical Center, several nursing homes and home nursing. Ruth was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Pine View Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, and lived at Kiwanis Towers for several years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Bryant; her dear son, Donald Wayne Bryant and wife Barbara Jean; grandparents, Judge John A. Moore and wife Martha, Ed Gilliam and wife Elizabeth; sisters, Nannie Sluss, Sadie Lane, Lillie Waddell, Venis Freeman, and Edna Penley; brothers, Harry Moore, Tom Moore, Charlie Moore, Conly Moore, and Corbet Moore.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, John C. Bryant and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Betsy) Magness and husband Ethan, Michael Bryant and Gina Bailiff, and Chris Bryant and wife Cathy; great-grandchildren, Reagan, Sarah, and Tyler Bryant, and Evan and Bryant Magness; and two best friends, Lucille Hincke of Kingsport, TN and Ann Hincke Evans of Des Plains, IL.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00am at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am with Ethan Magness officiating.
Ruth will be laid to rest following the funeral at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Love.
Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
