WE MISS YOU MY BEAUTIFUL GRANDMA!  ITS BEEN 7 MONTHS ALREADY AND NOT A DAY GOES BY THAT WE DONT THINK OF YOU...YOU TIED THE FAMILY TOGETHER WITH THE PRESCIOUS RIBBON OF LOVE YOU HAD OVER US..MAY YOU RIP GRANDMA..WE LOVE AND MISS YOU!

I miss you so much... You will always be in my heart and mind..

My Grandma Connie

 I have many fond memories of my grandmother, in fact I could probably write a couple of books of how great my grandma Connie was. I'm going to share some of those memories today.

My grandmother was the type of person that would always put others before herself especially when the house was full of grandchildren. I can distinctly remember eating one of my grandmothers homemade meals with a few of my cousins and asking her:

Me(8 years old): â€œGrandma arenâ€™t you gonna eat?â€

Grandma: â€œ No mijo you need to eat youâ€™re too skinnyâ€

My grandmother would wait until everyone had their fill of food and then she would make herself a plate. This is just one example of how unselfish my grandmother was. Also I was not a skinny kid, in fact I was quite chunky and squishy thanks to my grandmothers great home cooked meals which I would gladly eat until I felt like I was going to burstâ€¦it was that good.

Even on those years that I almost forgot my own birthday I could always count on my grandma Connie getting me a birthday card. In fact this will be the first birthday that I wonâ€™t be receiving a birthday card from my grandmother, grandma I miss you.
 
 With both of my parents working my grandmother would help out by babysitting me. So I would go with my grandma to Kingsville sometimes so that she could run some errands. Of course being the chunky little grandson that I was I always had to have something to eat which leads me into my next story. Right before grandma Connie and I are about to leave Kingsville we stop by McDonalds for a Happy Meal of course. So there we are at the drive-through and grandma asks me how I want my burger.

Me: â€œGrandma can I get my burger plain and dry with cheese please?â€

Grandma: â€œYes mijoâ€

Me: â€œOh grandma can you please check my burger cuz they always mess it up here.â€

Grandma: â€œNo mijo Iâ€™m not going to pay with a check Iâ€™m going to pay cash.â€

So after a few minutes the McDonalds lady in the window gives us our food and we drive off back to Driscoll. Being the impatient little kid that I was I couldnâ€™t wait to eat my burger and fries and play with my Happy Meal toy. As weâ€™re driving back home I open up my Happy meal, unwrap my burger and take the first bite. I make a face because as per usual the order was messed up and they had put lettuce and tomatoes on my burger. I have and probably always will hate vegetables and this was no exception, but I have never been one to complain about my food so I just took all the veggies off of my burger and downed that sucker. Once I was done I turned to my grandma and said, â€œsee grandma they messed up my order again, you shoulda paid with a check.â€ Of course I realize now that just because you use a check to pay for your Happy Meal doesnâ€™t mean your order wonâ€™t be wrong.  I donâ€™t know why exactly that memory stuck with me but I find myself thinking about it and laughing, it was definitely one of those funny little memories with my grandma that I will always cherish.

My grandma Connie was always there for her family and loved them unconditionally. She did her best to take car of her family and grandchildren and her best was always more than enough. She was a beautiful person who made my childhood that much better, I could not ask for a better grandmother than my grandma Connie.

Just like my father I have never been a big fan of hospitals. So when I first found out that my grandmother was in the hospital I found it difficult at first to build up the courage to visit her while everyone else had already been to the hospital to see her. Finally one Sunday after work I went directly to the hospital to visit my grandmother, little did I know that would be the last time I saw my grandmother. Having spoken to my mother I already knew which room that my grandmother was in, so I headed directly for the intensive care unit. As soon as I walk through the double doors a nurse greets me asking who I was there to visit, â€œIâ€™m here to see my grandma Constancia Zavala.â€ Unfortunately my grandma Connie was asleep so I didnâ€™t get to speak to her, and I didnâ€™t want to wake her because I felt that she needed her rest so that she could get better and get back home. I still regret today that I didnâ€™t get a chance to tell her that I loved her one last time before she past on.
