Curtis Erling Pearson, 92, passed away on April 28, 2022 in the Kipling Hospital, five weeks after experiencing a fall. Curtis was born on a neighbour’s farm in the Kipling District to Nels Pearson and Isabel (Molberg/Lindblom) Pearson. He grew up on his parents’ farm with his older sister Margaret. Curtis attended the Highland School and at age 16 moved to Regina to continue his schooling at Balfour Tech. After working on the pipeline in AB & SK, he returned to Kipling to purchase the Hub Café from his uncle, Karl Graff. When his father retired in 1956, Curtis acquired the farm.
He met the love of his life Elsie Lenz when she came to Kipling to visit her sister, Evelyn Knutson. Just a couple of weeks after dating, Curtis declared “I think I want to marry you”. They were married a year later in 1958 and thus began a loving 63 year marriage. They operated a dairy from 1961-1975 and mixed grain farm until 1992, staying on the farm until they moved to the new house they had built in Kipling in 2004. In 2015, they moved to Willow Height Estates.
He was a loving father to his daughters, Janine Pearson and Ruth (Jim) Spetz and grandchildren, Joel (Morgan Wapple) Spetz, Aaron Spetz and Anik Watson. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his niece, Candice (Ray) Poley and nephew, Eric (Pat) Widdup.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Margaret (Les) Widdup, niece Elizabeth Hunsicker, son-in-law Ian Watson, and many dear in-laws, friends and neighbours.
He was a masterful storyteller with a sense of humour, genuinely interested in others. Spending his life in Kipling, he was a strong supporter of community and treasured many friends through their church, the Friendship Centre, Willow Height Estates and 27 winters spent at Trails End Park, in Weslaco, Texas. He was thoughtful, kind and considerate, with wisdom and an abundance of common sense. He enjoyed business and investing became a favourite hobby, along with fishing and guiding his grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held in Christ Lutheran Church in Kipling on Tuesday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Halvorson presiding. Donations in memory of Curtis may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Ave Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9, Kipling & District Health Foundation, Box 989, Kipling, SK, S0G 2S0, Highland Cemetery Fund Box 239, Kipling, SK, S0G 2S0 or by e-transfer to [email protected] or a charity of the donor’s choice.
