He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Diana Storer (high school sweetheart); his sons, Nicholas (Diane), Damon (Christina), Jason (Katherine), and Mark (Leslie); and his grandchildren, Isabella, Dominic, and Mark Jr.
As a young man, Rene honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. He delighted in telling his family his stories from his time in the service. One such story was about his swim calls. How he loved to jump off the aircraft carrier into the deep blue ocean and swim about. This story would always get a smile and chuckle from his family, coming from a man who avoided swimming or any water-related activities in his later years.
Rene retired from being a Bridge and Tunnel officer of 20 years and moved his family from the hustle and bustle of New York to the suburbs of Florida, a place he originally was hesitant to even vacation to. The theme parks in Florida ignited his love for the state, his favorite one being Epcot. After he and Diana would make their trip around the World Showcase, he always ended it with a Shandy along with his fish & chips. It is fitting that one of his sons made a career working for one of them.
When it came to hobbies, Rene was a jack of all trades. His curiosity for a new hobby held no bounds. Whether it be pipe smoking one day, watch collecting another, or wax sealing the next. His last one was collecting knives, which his wife held a great fondness for, if you ask her on the right day. His eagerness to learn and try something different are qualities he passed on to all his sons. Like father, like son, as they say.
Lastly, Rene was an avid cruise enthusiast. He and his wife, Diana, were always sailing away to some new, exciting destination, with another one always in the works. Rene is now on a voyage he alone is taking. “Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.” His family will love and miss him as his new voyage takes him beyond the horizon.
