Doreen Jean Smith

Doreen passed away peacefully, at home, with her loving family at her side, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, on Friday May 20, 2011. Doreen was the beloved wife and partner for 55 years of Russ. She was the loving mother and friend of Julie of Kitchener, Brian and his wife Maria of London, and Wendy Boyle of London. Nana dearly loved her grandchildren, Kira Smith, Joshua and Vanessa Boyle. Doreen was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Before her retirement she had been employed as the library secretary at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate (KCI) and had been active in the computerization of many Waterloo Region District School Board libraries. Doreen touched many lives with her kindness, warmth, and generosity. She will be sadly missed by all who shared special moments with her. It was Doreen’s wish that there be no visitation at the funeral home. After cremation, a private family internment service will be held in Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener. A public memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, ON N2G 1C7. Following the service, relatives and friends are invited to the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre for refreshments and a time to visit with the family.
