My very special friend, Merle, was my prayer partner and mentor since 1990 when we met in South Florida at the home Mrs. Winston. I would like to share a little of what Merle has been in my life!
Merle has served as our Vice President since its founding in May 1997 of "Home On The Range" Ministries International Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non profit organization in the USA, with the mission of providing permanent homes for orphans and destitute widows. "Home on The Range" currently has a home with 28 children in Southern India and is currently building a children's home in Catacamas, Honduras. Merle has been a faithful officer in her service and prayer to the organization. Her encouragement and faithfulness over the years as been priceless. 
Merle had a special gift in sewing! She assisted me for years with designing and sewing animal costumes for an event where thousands of people attended over two week-ends each October. The special event was "Enchanted Forest", an alternative to Halloween and all about the natural world, produced at Pine Jog Environmental Education Center / Florida Atlantic University, College of Education, where I was events coordinator. We spent many LONG nights burning the midnight candle, laughing and ripping out seams to get the costume just exactly right. I recall the raccoon mask was the most difficult, having been ripped out and re-sewn many times over and the banana spider the most challenging. WOW! We did have fun . . .
Merle was also involved with "Leaves of Life" Ministry, a Christian Dance Ministry that shares the gospel of Jesus Christ using drama and dance. Merle assisted in the design of costumes and banners and sometimes filled in as a Banner Carrier when we were short of people. I remember one  banner I was making, I was stuck at a particular place and was running out of time for the event. I had just been praying, how to get it finished, when there was a knock at the door. It was Merle and she said she was headed North and wanted to have a cup of coffee and spend a little time with me before hitting the road. When I showed her my banner and explained my being stuck and running out of time for the event taking place and I needed the banner completed, She simply said "I can help" and immediately started to work on the banner!" So she stayed with us a couple of weeks on her vacation to complete the Banner. Merle was a true Warrior!!!!!
One of the places she especially liked to go with the ministry, was when the team ministered at the VA Hospital in Miami. 
I still have a cactus and plant she left me when she moved back to Canada. Must be her Green Thumb lingering all these years for them both to have survived all these past 12 years.
I phoned her one day and said I have three new kittens that were orphaned and I've named them: Braveheart, Princess and Girlie. Merle burst out laughing. I asked her what was so funny about those names. She laughed and laughed. Then she said "remember I used to tell you I lived on the farm and followed my Dad around wherever he went?" I said "Yes". She said "well, guess what he called me? Girlie!"
So we had a good laugh about that one. 
She used to tell me about her days growing up on the farm. 
I will miss our Long visits on the phone and our prayer time.
I know she is will produce a beautiful garden with all the lives she has touched!
See you again in time, my sweet friend!
Brant and I love you more than words can express and will miss you being in our lives!
