Nellis was an honorable man whom I had the privilege of being associated with.  Thanks for the lesson in two engine flying, Nellis. May you rest in peace.

It is with deep sorry that I learned of Nelles passing.  A big man with an even bigger heart.  An early and devoted member of the O.M.C.A.  Our deepest sympathies to the Lichman family.

To the Lishman Family
My sympathies on the passing of Nelles.  He was such a great gentleman and a wonderful example to anyone growing up in the bus business.  I especially remember flying with Nelles as a kid just after I had seen the movie "Battle of Britain" - and Nelles performed some aerobatics which I loved, but I recall made my Dad a little queasy.  As an adult it was a pleasure to spend time chatting about the bus industry, Nelles's time in the airforce and life in general.  A true gentleman and a pioneer!

Nelles was certainly a part of the history of the Ontario motor coach industry and it was such a pleasure, and privilege, to talk to Nelles about the industry and to appreciate his contribution. Our sympathies to you, his family.

  I met Nelles when I was a kid and was in awe of this confident handsome  guy.Years later I had the pleasure of working with him in our bus garage in Bracebridge(he asked to be paid in U.S. cash) He could fix anything and if a part was not available he could make it.More importantly I got to see close up how a true gentleman operated. Wood Lake has lost a part of its history and a treasured one at that. Excitement on the lake when Nelles landed his seaplane on West Bay where our cottages are also located. In his latter years he'd drive up Fox Point Road in his red truck and always acknowledge you with a friendly wave. We'll miss the red truck and its dashing owner.

Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences on the loss of your Dad.  To us in the West Bay, he was simply Lish and a lifelong friend of our dad Wib Stewart for so many years.  My brother Rick was remembering this week how he saw your Dad skiing behind the Clipper in the bay with your Mom on his shoulders.  He was responsible too for the ski jump and bringing slalom skiing to the lake during our youth.  
After our Dad died, he made sure he was available to our mom Ruby and us if we needed any advice or assistance.  There were many times we sought his counsel.   More recently when his own health failed, he would simply drive down in the truck, sit in the driveway and honk until one of us came out to see him and assist with a favour he might have.
He certainly was the extrovert in the family and your mom and he had so many good years together which is a blessing. 
With our Mom's recent death and now with Lish, it seems like a very special generation is coming to an end at Wood Lake.
He will missed by all of the Stewarts - Ron, Sharon, Rick and families.

To all of Nelles' family:  I am very sorry for your loss and I offer my sincere condolences.  I met Nelles and Esther only a few years ago when he helped me with the Lishman history.  His memory for all things bus related was incredible. My appreciation for him is immense.

Esther and Family,
Our family had a cottage right next to Nelles, on Wood lake, for about twenty years. When I first introduced myself to Nelles, I informed him that I had no DIY or mechanical skills whatsoever. His eyes lit up in anticipation of the many projects he now had to look forward to. I can't remember the numerous times  that  I trod a very beaten path over to Nelles, usually to find him working in his garage, and humbly asked for his help. Needless to say, he always cheerfully and successfully bailed me out. Nelles was larger than life and our family will always have great memories of him.

It is with a heavy heart that I write down these words. Over the years, Uncle Moose went from being a friend of my Mom and Dad's to become a friend of mine. My first memories of Mr. Lishman were being afraid of this Mountain of a Man. He would visit the cottage we were renting, in the West Bay, almost every morning (along with Wib Stewart) for coffee and to discuss the days activities. This usually entailed a project at either one of their cottages. Although there was "work to be done," there were always a few laughs, a few drinks and a few digs at each other's incompetence on the job! As a young apprentice on the site, I learned more about friendship than I did about any trade.
Teaching me to waterski (along with his grandson's Robbie, Chris and Brad), keeping the sea-flea brigade afloat and its motors running properly and the odd fishing trip were other tasks that he took great pride and enjoyment in and we appreciated his efforts.
Over the years, my "fear" of Moose began to fade and my appreciation of him grew. As a mentor, helper on projects of my own and still able to repair the odd broken down fishing motor, I spent many days up in his workshop (garage) either getting life advice, tips on "how to...." and assisting in any way I could to fix the old 7 1/2 Johnson. We were still able to get out on our annual fishing trip and these are times I will cherish greatly. I still remember the time he sent me over the canoe in one of our fishing trips to retrieve a lure. It had snagged a log deep in the water. He was so happy that I was able to get it and that it saved him "5 bucks." 
My trips continued over to Lish's garage for many years and I'm sure I was looking for some help on something but now I was visiting, just to talk and maybe assist him now in any way I could. We had become friends.
I'll miss you my friend.

Len got in touch to let me know of your sad news.  I am sorry for your loss. Mr. Lishman (or Uncle Moose) was a larger than life character. Wood Lake will never be the same. I share wonderful memories of learning to waterski, 6 skiers behind the Clipper, watching the old guys on the ski jump, fish fry dinners, 8 am coffee visits, dump treasures, scuba lessons, and Jeff (named Toad by the two of them) following Papa and Uncle Moose about their projects.  There are many more...  He and your Mom also helped with arrangements for Ross and my honeymoon at Small Hope Bay Lodge - we were greeted with champagne in our room. Thank you for being a wonderful part of our lives.
