

Arthur Smith, age 94, of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, June 26, 2016. He had been living in Portsmouth, Ohio with his great niece and nephew, Rhonda and Al Watkins since 2013. During his early years, he was raised by his grandmother, Lyla Lomax and after her death he was raised by his late sister, Rosa Lee Jones and later by his late godmother, Mattie Davis. He was a WWII veteran and later he provided custodial service throughout the Knoxville area including Alcoa Aluminum, the Knoxville City School System and the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB). Arthur loved to talk about the bible and he could talk for hours. Throughout his life, Arthur was known for helping others and his legacy of giving will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his wife, Glenice Smith; daughter, Glenda Sheadrick; and grandson, Willie Sheadrick, Jr. He is Survived by his sons, Melvin Brown (Bertha); Arthur L. Smith; Stanley J. Smith (Christine); daughter, Christine Williams (Thomas); and a host of grand, great grand and great great grandchildren, nephews and nieces including his loving and devoted niece and caregivers, Rhonda and Al Watkins. The service of cremation was done in Portsmouth, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m., until 12:00 p.m., on Friday, July 8 2016 at Berry Highland South Funeral Home with the celebration of life to follow at 12:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Inurnment will immediately follow in Berry Highland South Cemetery, with full military honors being provided by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard.
