Betty was born the second child of Mary Amelia and Henry L. Landreth in Junction City, Kansas. Upon graduation from high school in Casper Wy, during the Korean War, Betty joined the Navy to become a Navy Core man. During her assignment to Camp LeJeune, North Carolina in 1953, Betty met the love of her life- Marvin Harris Jordan Sr who she married and had six children over a ten-year period between 1954 to 1964. She was a dedicated and resourceful wife, mother, bookkeeper, genealogist, seamstress, devoted reader, and lover of the outdoors. She never lost contact with her humble Midwest depression era roots. Everything she did, she did with a smile and a grace rarely seen. She was fiercely independent. As with all of us, she was not perfect. She helped each of her children to become the person who they were by listening and providing support whenever she could. Throughout her life she lived in many places throughout the US. Later in life she loved to travel with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the beautiful sights and diversity of cultures in this world. Betty never lost her love of reading, exploring in person or through a book.
Betty has been preceded in death by her husband Marvin Harris Jordan Sr, sons- Marvin Harris Jordan Jr, Floyd Andrew Jordan, and daughter- Rebecca Jean Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her parents and older brother.
She is survived by her children Lynda O’Gorman, Kenneth Jordan (Judy) and Mary Elliott (Arthur Robert- aka Bob). Her posterity, of which all are living, includes 14 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. She is survived by her sister JoAnne Garrin.
Betty is a true believer and a passionate follower of Our Heavenly Father and Christ. Raised Catholic, as an adult Betty later chose the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as her spiritual home. She made and was faithful to the covenants she made. She fulfilled her callings at Church willingly and happily. Betty lived life deserving of the scriptural comment “Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the Eternal Peace of the Lord”.
