Carl Britton Cook, Sr., affectionately known as Carl or C.B. to family and longtime friends, and always "Daddy" to his children, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of 98. He was born on January 13, 1927.
Carl (C.B.) was preceded in death by his parents, Lackey Garrett and Elzora Manis Cook; his first wife, Mary Alice Burnett Cook; his brother, Charles Cook; and sisters, Willie May Delozier and Elizabeth Denton.
A proud Navy veteran of World War II, Carl (C.B.) answered the call to serve at just 17 years old. He served honorably in the Pacific during the final chapter of the war. After returning home, he forged a successful career as a commercial contractor, founding his own company and overseeing projects across three states.
Raised on a farm, he learned early the values of hard work, kindness, and service to others. Inspired by his father, who once played Santa Claus during the Great Depression to bring joy to neighborhood children, Carl (C.B.) carried that same spirit of generosity throughout his life. He was always ready to lend a hand where needed.
Carl (C.B.) is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth, and his sister, Betty Eason. He leaves behind his children: Jenny Kitts (Steve), Carl B. Cook, Jr., daughter, Jane Jackson (Larry); his grandchildren: April Stouffer (Jason), Greg Jackson (Taylor), and Matthew Jackson; and his great-grandchildren: Tristan Stouffer, Gabby Stouffer, Jacob Jackson, Reece Jackson, Peyton Jackson, Lily Jackson, Joey Jackson, Kinslee Jackson, Ellie Jackson, Allie Cardwell.
He is also survived by his stepchildren: Mark Haskew (Jan) and Sheila Woody; and their children: Julie Fields (Travis), Jonathan Haskew (Jana), Emily Woody, Jacob Haskew (Erin); step-great-grands, Landon and Logan Fields, Revel Haskew, Paxton and Luna Perez.
Much love to the caregivers; Carol Ebert, Renee Cook and her team, Smokey Mountain Hospice, and the Veterans Administration.
Carl’s (C.B.) life was marked by quiet strength, steadfast service, and enduring love for his family and community.
