

Hayes, Chalmer Douglas, “Doug”, went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2014. Preceded in death by parents, Chad and Nora Hayes. Survived by wife of 59 years, Helen Lyon Hayes; daughters, Melissa (Steve) Knight, Deborah (Robby) Howard; grandchildren, Jessica Knight, Josh Knight, and Sara Howard; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Tom Cureton. Doug was a long time member of Stock Creek Baptist Church where he faithfully served in many capacities and was the youngest deacon ordained in the history of the church. His tour of duty in the U.S. Army included one year in Korea. He retired from Robertshaw Controls in 1997. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and loving his family. Doug will be greatly missed not only by his family and church but also by his many special friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00pm Friday, February 7, 2014 at Berry Funeral Home Chapman Highway. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00am at Stock Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Buddy Johnson officiating. Interment to follow at Stock Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Cureton, Robby Howard, Gary Hubbs, Joshua Knight, Steve Knight, Mike Stansberry, and Dicky Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult II Men’s Sunday School Class.
