Cher was born Cheryl Renee Roth in Newton, Kansas on March 10, 1949. She was primarily raised by grandparents, Clyde and Helen Gurley of Brainerd, Kansas but also loved and cared for by her parents and stepmom. Cher was married to Donald Lee Bosch of Topeka, Kansas in 1969 – with her grandfather, the Reverend Ted Roth officiating. Their daughter Desma Noelle was born in 1970 and their son Chad Joseph in 1974.
In 1992, Marc and Cher met their younger sister Marty for the first time. Marty had been one of the missing pieces in Cher’s life after learning of her existence as a young child. The opportunity to know Marty was an unimagined answer to Cher’s childhood prayers and a gracious gift from God.
Don and Cher moved their family from their native Kansas to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1977. They visited Christ Chapel shortly afterward – finding their spiritual home and their forever church family.
Cher is preceded in death by her parents, Wilford Leslie "Bill" and Geraldine "Jeri" Fern Roth and sister, Marty Paulsen Pope. She is survived by her beloved husband, Donald Lee Bosch; children, Desma Noelle Abbott (Barry Abbott) and Chad Joseph Bosch; grandchildren, Brendan Joel Abbott, Brianna Renee Stout (Isaiah Brian Stout), Jaden Emma Bosch, and Cole Jackson Ambrose Bosch, her brother Gene Marc Roth (wife Debbie Roth), stepmother Betty Roth, and her cousin Bill Gurley (Traci Gurley).
We will remember the life of this beautiful, smart and feisty saint on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Christ Chapel, 1538 Highland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916. Visitation will be held at 10am with a memorial service to follow at 11am. A graveside service will be held at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery at 1pm.
Donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to Blount County Humane Society in Maryville, TN
