On August 3rd, Debbie Tate Butler, just shy of her 64 th birthday, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, close friends and her dogs, Steven and Scooby. Debbie will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but they have great comfort picturing the reunion and embrace between her and her son, Britton, in heaven. Debbie’s greatest joy was her family. She took great pride in leading and protecting the four Tate girls growing up. Debbie, also known as Momma, Sue and GMESUE, loved well, and she loved big. She selflessly served those she loved, and she never hesitated to drop what she was doing and offer her time and her gifts. She gave all of herself to care for and be by Britton’s side until his death, and her son, Jerry, has so graciously given all of himself to care for her all while making her smile and laugh. Debbie is so proud of the man he has become, and his family is her biggest blessing. Debbie fought cancer with courage and faith, and she lived well until Jesus welcomed her home.
Debbie is preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Tate, her oldest son, James Britton Butler, and nephew, Trey Campbell. Debbie is survived by her younger son and daughter in law, Jerry and Megan Butler and her three beloved grandchildren, Blakely, James and Briar; her father and his wife, Jerry and Tammy Tate; sisters and brothers in law Sherri Campbell, Tammy and Mike Asbury, Kerry and Donald Kennedy, and Terry and Brad Allen; siblings Amanda Fox and Brian and Sara Fox; nieces & nephews Jennifer, Josh, Madison, Allie, Kayla, Hagan, Kendal, Hunter, Tate, Avery, Cayden, McKenzie, Brielle and Cruz; several great nieces; special friends and family Sharon and Don Carmichael, Cathy Roach, Jo Ann Young, Becky Johnson and Jim and Cyndi Butler and bonus sisters and brother-in-law Randy Sutherland, Beth Childress, Emily Hays and Doug Campbell. Debbie and her family want to thank Dr. Ryan Huey at MD Anderson, Dr. Chris Siano at Knox Wellness, Dr. Daniel Ibach at Tennessee Cancer Specialists and nurses Stephanie and Lauren for their care and compassion. And a special thanks to Stanley Fox and Team Britton as they continue to honor the memory of both Britton and Debbie. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Team Britton as they continue to raise awareness and financial support for those fighting cancer. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Tuesday at Weaver’s Chapel with a service to follow at 7 pm. Family and friends will meet 9:45 am Wednesday at Edgewood Cemetery for a 10 am interment. Pallbearers: Doug Campbell, Donald Kennedy, Brad Allen, Mike Asbury, Jim Butler and David Childress. Condolences may be left at www.weaverfuneralservices.com
