Doris Frazier

Doris Wood Frazier (Sissy), 89, passed away on Friday, May 2,2025 at Emory Ridge Memory Care Facility in Knoxville, TN. A UT graduate and staunch supporter of the Vols, she will be sorely missed. She was a long-time member of the handbell choir at Trinity United Methodist Church. Even before she retired after 33 years from Martin Marietta K-25, she spent her time organizing and serving the world around her. When she wasn’t planning the adventure of a lifetime, she kept the bowling league running and made sure the hand bell choir members were aware of practice times. An avid reader, she was frequently at the Norwood Branch of the Knoxville Public Library selecting books and audio books for herself and friends. She loved counted cross-stitch and was always gifting items to friends and family. She lovingly displayed Department 56 collections throughout her home. She travelled extensively by car across the U.S. when she and Dick were able to travel. Once she summoned her courage and flew to Europe to travel with Pat and Bill. She held season passes to Dollywood, loved the Steel Invaders and flew to Trinidad and Tobago to visit in their homes twice. As the perfect southern hostess she often took a sour cream pound cake to Dollywood to share with visiting musicians. Her love for God’s creatures was lavished on her cats and dogs, cats and dogs that visited while their families were away, and all the birds and squirrels that visited her feeders. Her time spent gardening will be enjoyed by the neighborhood for years as she generously shared the iris and daylilies that she cultivated along the street. Cumberland Estates block parties gave her a chance to visit will her neighbors and share her coconut cake. It’s easy now to see how such a small person could leave such a big hole in this world! We will love her always!

She was preceded in death by husband, Richard R. Frazier, SR, parents, Robert Earl Wood and Bernice Dunlap Snedden (Bill), brothers, Charles R. Wood, and Edward E. Wood (Eddie), and special friend, Bernie Poe.

Doris is survived by her sisters, Patricia Snedden Doan (Bill) and Lennie Wood Lively, brother, Billy Wood (Faye), stepchildren, Anne Frazier Ham and Richard R. Frazier, JR (Cindy). Nephews and nieces include David Wood, Mike Wood (Debbie), Tim Wood (Robin), Hilary Wood, Misty Wood, and Susan Wood. Step-grandchildren are Cara Ham Pierce (Jason) and Naomi Frazier Wilson (Jon).

Celebration of life is at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5613 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921 at 1:00 on Saturday, May 17. Pastor Barbara Clark will officiate the service at 2:00. Interment will be in LaFayette, GA on May 18 at 2:30 at the LaFayette City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church (designate to the music programs).
