Frank "Boomer" Boring Jr.

Boring, Jr., Frank “Boomer”, age 83, of Alcoa, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2011 at the home of Justin Mock and Leonard and Shirley Stinnett. Mr. Boring taught Social Studies and Driver’s Education at Central High School from 1955 until his retirement in 1982. He served as the Assistant Football Coach from 1955-1957, Head Football Coach from 1958-1972 and also coached baseball and golf. Frank was awarded Coach of the Year in Football and served as Athletic Director for many years. Frank graduated from Alcoa High School and went on to play on the 1951 University of Tennessee National Championship Football Team and was a member of Blount County Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Boring served his country in the United States Army as a commissioned officer.

Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Margie M. Boring; daughter, Gay Allison Boring; godchildren, Kim Stinnett Mock and Jim Stinnett, Jr; mother, Sally Gay Boring; father, Frank Boring Sr; brother, T.J. Boring; wife, Marybelle Boring; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Willie McClellan, and sister-in-law, Doris McCauley.

He is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Olive Boring; sister-in-law, Rhella Boring; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Betty and Clifton Stubblefield, Lois and Richard Patterson, and Shirley and Leonard Stinnett; brother, David Mills; sister-in-law, Vada Mills; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and special friends, Hugh and Barbara Roberts, and his extended family at Hertz Rental McGhee-Tyson Airport.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Blount Memorial Hospice and requests donations be made in lieu of flowers in Frank’s memory.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 14th from 4-6pm in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy. Funeral services will follow at 6pm, Rev. David Stubblefield officiating.
