
Lodde, Gordon Maynard, of Mount Joy, PA, passed away at Brakebill Nursing Home, Knoxville, TN on October 20, 2014. Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Jean (Caldwell) Lodde; and his parents, Herman M. and Eva Grace (Robinson) Lodde. He was born in Lafayette, IN on August 19, 1933. Gordon grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Trinity High School. He continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University in 1958 and received a Masters of Science Degree from the University of Rochester in 1964. After participating in Army ROTC, while attending Purdue University, Gordon was commissioned a Second Lieutenant then served in the Medical Service Corp in 1959. His first assignment was Korea. In 1979, after 20 years of service, he retired from the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as Chief of the Health Physics Branch, US Army Environmental Hygiene Agency (now known as CHIPPEM) at Edgewood Arsenal (now part of Aberdeen Proving Ground), MD. His decorations included the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Legion of Merit Award. After retiring, he continued working as a health physics consultant from 1979 to 2006. Companies that he worked for included Porter Consultants, as well as GPU Nuclear, Battelle, FEMA, and various other private contracts. He was a Fellow in the Health Physics Society as well as an individual member of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists and the American Nuclear Society. Gordon was a contributing author for two publications: Handbook for Management of Radiation Protection Programs in 1992; and Encyclopedia of Occupational Health and Safety in 1997. Additionally, he volunteered to sit on several ANSI committees where he wrote standards for Radiation Protection. He was an avid adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) from 1967 through 1983. He held virtually every voluntary adult unit position in the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Exploring. Additionally, he held positions at the district and council levels where he was awarded the District Merit Award in 1976 as well as the Silver Beaver Award in 1978. He is survived by his two sons and daughter: Gordon A. Lodde of Lancaster, PA, Bruce C. Lodde of Sweetser, IN, and Melissa J. (Lodde) Cox of Knoxville, TN. He also has two granddaughters: Kezia A. Cox and Katy J. (Cox) and Jesse McCallon of Knoxville, TN. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Boy Scouts of America, PO Box 51885, Knoxville TN 37950-1885.
