Herbert Harold Hobby Jr.

Herbert Harold Hobby, Jr. fought “the good fight of faith”, throughout his thirteen-year battle with three different cancers, entering heaven healed on April 24, 2026 at his home. Harold is most known through his business, Hobby Industries, Inc., that he, and his late wife Sara, owned and operated for over four decades until his retirement at age 83.

Harold accepted Christ and was baptized at Sevier Heights as a boy. Before marrying Sara in 1961, he joined Mt. Olive Baptist where he has attended perpetually.

He is preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Trula Hobby and infant sister Sondra Faye, wife Sara Stroud Hobby, and daughter Cindy Hobby Ammons. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jill Hobby and Dr. Philip Meyette; son-in-law Martin Ammons; sister Claudia Kennedy; brother Donnie Hobby and wife Diana; extended family in NC, AZ, and MI, special “son” Khen Huynh; neighbors and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Old Maryville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920. Funeral Service will immediately follow beginning at 7:00 PM with Martin Ammons, Rev. Pam Neal, and Rev. Kirby Ownby officiating.

Interment will follow at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in NC (TBD) where NC Representative Rev. Paul Scott will officiate, Dr. Jim Richardson will pray, and Dr. Doug Stroud will read scripture.

Honorary Pallbearers include Members of Young High Class of ’58 and the MOBC Senior Men Sunday School Class.

The Hobbys extend truckloads of gratitude to the many doctors and nurses that have cared for Harold. Special gratitude to: Dr. Eapen, Edna, and Katie; Dr. Midis; Dr. Reese; Dr. Weaver; Dr. Lischer; Dr. Antiporda; staff at Fort Sanders ER, IR, TCU, CVICU, Lobby Check-In, and Pat Neal; Marino Therapy; and 24/7 on-call physician, Dr. Meyette.
