Jack L. Ewing, age 90, passed away December 28, 2020 of acute leukemia. Jack was born in Frankfort Indiana and grew up working there in a small machine shop owned by his father. He served in the Indiana National Guard for basic military training attending Wabash College and graduated from Purdue with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. His first wife was Becky Sue Harshman and they were married at the Kappa Sigma house at Purdue. They had four children; Cynthia McKnight, Scott, Bruce, and Jane Anderson. His second wife was Betty Lou Coppage/Trevena and they celebrated two weddings at her home in Knoxville and a church in Cades Cove. Betty had two children, Billy Trevena and Lisa Kruger (Raleigh, NC). Jack went to work in the oil patch as a Field Engineer for Schlumberger Well Surveying. He logged and shot oil wells in the Gulf Coast area from dusty East Texas to South Florida swamps. After seven years of this life, he decided to make a change. Jack moved his family to Knoxville after doing research on several optional cities. The main attractions here were the fresh-water lakes and mountains. He went to work as an Assembly Engineer at Y-12 when Union Carbide managed it. After two years in assembly, he mostly worked as a systems analyst developing new production control software and implementing shop floor data collection systems. He retired after 37 years of service. He and his families enjoyed boating locally by sailing on Norris Lake and house boating on Tellico Lake. Jack and Betty used their motor home to explore the East Coast from Nova Scotia to Key West. They also enjoyed snorkeling in the Caribbean, especially on St. John. We would like to gratefully acknowledge assistance from Professional Case Management. With a very special thanks to Lisa Andes who served for many years as our wonderful caretaker. Her loyalty and compassion were well appreciated. Preceded in death by wife, Betty Coppage. Survived by children, Cynthia McKnight, Scott Ewing, Bruce (Susan) Ewing, Janie (Dan) Anderson; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Bill (Judy) Ewing.
