James "Butch" Edward McCoury

James (Butch) Edward McCoury, age 82 of Knoxville, TN passed away Wednesday, February 5th, 2025. James was a 1959 graduate of Rush Strong High School. He was of the methodist faith. Born in Livingston, Tennessee in 1942, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years as a Jet Engine Mechanic until his retirement in 1999. He was married to his loving wife, Peggy McCoury for 53 years and was proud of his service to his country.

He is preceded in death by parents; Jim and Vera McCurry; wife Peggy McCoury; sisters; Wanda Loudermilk and Lorraine Chambers; and daughter Julie Jones.

He is survived by his son Michael Slover (Crista); daughter Kathy Hensley (John); grandchildren; Laura Bailey (Michael), John Hensley V (Abigail), and Zac Slover; great grandson Zeke Bailey; special friends Jr. and Linda Bailey and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Atria Weston Place Memory Care for the care and support they provided to “King James” as they like to call him.

A graveside service will occur at 2:00 PM Monday, February 10, 2025 at Eastview Memorial Gardens, 1320 Andrew Johnson Hwy, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871.
