James Claude Shirk

Major James “Jay” Claude Shirk Jr., 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. Jay served his community for more than 30 years with the Knox County Sheriffs Department, up until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of the Burlington Lodge #763 and the Kerbela Shriners of Knoxville.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, James and Edith Shirk; daughter, Julie Lindsey; brothers Bill, George, Walter, and Roy Gray; sister, Joyce Schley.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and dedicated wife of 40 years Delores Gregg Shirk; sisters, Carrie Nell, Judy Shirk; brothers, James Paul, Richard Shirk, nieces, Kerry (Preston) Roberts, Andrea (Donald) Gustavson; nephew, Matthew (Theresa) Gregg, and many cousins and close friends.
