The summer of 1992, Skip could not leave work in Fort Collins to take a vacation to Tennessee. So, mom flew out to Colorado and helped me drive the three boys back to Knoxville. We had a blast! She had been traveling with her girlfriends from work and really enjoyed a road trip. We stopped in Salida, Kansas the first night. The boys wanted to eat hamburgers at the diner by the restaurant and go into the pool even though it was late. Mom sat up with them and helped put them to bed. 
We made it back to Knoxville on the third day. We spent the next week at the Alcoa pool, swimming at Lenny's houseboat, and fishing at Aunt Ava's. 
I suppose I remember this particular vacation to Tennessee because mom was such a trooper with her grandsons.

Dear Bruce Family - I just learned of Katheryn's passing (Brucie as we called her in the Cashier's Office).  My heart goes out to you all, as she was one-of-a kind.  I have such fun memories of the 10 years we worked together!  We stayed in touch, and she always sent the most loving, enjoyable Christmas cards with hand-written notes capturing the highlights of the year with her family.  Please know I share in your grief and am so sorry I wasn't there for her service.

I was honored to meet your Mom at Asbury Assisted Living while visiting my mother -in -law,  Doris Johnson. These two were table mates in the dining room and  on occasions I would stop by and share some time while they ate. We would all tell stories and laugh at our selves and just share fond memories. Katheryn spoke so highly about her love for her family and the proudness of each one as you left a memory with her. Her humor and wittiest personality kept me in stitches and really helped with  Doris’s mild dementia and mood. I took Doris to visit in her room as her health declined and we shared a wonderful visit . She was ready for the end and her faith was strong. I’ll never forget our relationship and the attitude of facing our eternity. I know without a doubt she is at peace and sharing those witty and humorous jokes and eating some of those beans and fried potatoes! My thoughts and prayers to you guys for peace and comfort during this sad but rejoicing time of grief.

I started working with your Mom in the Cashier Office at St. Mary’s  in’71 right after graduation from KCHS. She was there when I was dating and met my husband several years later. I was part time since I was a UT Student but she kept me in stitches every time we worked together. Have never forgotten her telling me multiple times “I can’t wait till you get married and are miserable like the rest of us!!” 😂 I knew she loved Johnny  so I wasn’t too worried! We will celebrate our 44th anniversary in 2019. She & I have been exchanging Christmas cards all these years! I regret that I haven’t seen her in many years. She was one special lady with a gift for making others happy. God bless all of you . I am deeply sorry for your loss. Much love.


Katheryn's family.....I worked with Katheryn in 1974 at St. Mary's after a few weeks I found out that she and mother grew up together in  the Trentville community.  In 1976 I went to work at T.V.A. and got to know her husband John Bruce.  Both were very nice people.
