Kurt V. Land, age 88, passed away peacefully after an eleven-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Buffalo, New York, Kurt served his country in the United States Army before going on to earn his degree from Florida State University where he also found the love of his life, Patricia (Pat). He later earned his MBA from The University of Tennessee. Kurt and Pat began their life together working for the government in Fort Meade, Maryland. In 1968, they moved to Tennessee, which became home. He joined the team at Y-12 as a staff programmer and later moved to the engineering department as a Staff Engineer at K-25, where he completed 30 years. Kurt loved his church, Trinity United Methodist Church. He preferred to serve in the background, washing dishes in the kitchen, stocking the food pantry, and as a proud member of the Old Geezers Club, helping that band of faithful churchmen keep the building in good repair. He picked up trash, painted rooms, replaced lights, and fixed plumbing. Beyond the church walls, he delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered with AARP and VITA to help neighbors complete their tax filings. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully until the end. Kurt believed his gift was giving, and he practiced it every day. Kurt is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat; their children, Michael Land, Melanie Graves, and Andrew (Erin) Land; brother, Bill Lane; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Isaiah, Grabriel, Evelyn, and Annabella.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Emory Ridge Memory Care for the compassionate care Kurt has received over the past 19 months, and to UT Hospice for their kindness and support through his closing chapter.
He will be deeply missed and remembered for his generosity, his steady presence, and a helping hand that was never far away.
Family will receive friends Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church from 6-7 pm with service to follow at 7pm. Condolences are welcome at weaverfuneralservices.com.
