Lee received his BA from St. Vincent College and an MA from West Virginia University. He had been a high school teacher, track coach, guidance counselor, labor relations and safety director, hospice chaplain and pastor. He also enjoyed singing in the choir and deep sea fishing. In everything, he was always the teacher and counselor, even when we didn't want to learn or listen. He spent his life encouraging others, bringing his track team to a state championship. Lee negotiated a multi-union, multi-corporation labor agreement that was reported in Engineering News-Record. Most significant and meaningful was his time as a hospice chaplain and pastor, serving others. He was truly blessed by being a blessing to others, delivering food to the needy for the FISH program at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church, teaching the Disciple Bible study course at the various churches at which he served, visiting the homebound and providing comfort and encouragement wherever needed.
Lee was preceded in death by his brother Ignatius Hokaj, and his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Christine. He is survived by his wife, partner, and soulmate Laurel Hokaj; children Lee Michael Hokaj (Gail), Rev. Dr. Leslie Traylor, and Amy Hokaj; granddaughter Sarah Traylor; brother David Hokaj (Carol) and sister-in-law Nancy Hokaj; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as the Molly cat and several grand dogs.
Receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 12pm at Berry Highland West Funeral Home with a funeral service at 2pm followed by a graveside service at 3pm, Rev. Troy Forrester and Rev. Larry Trotter officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church, FISH Pantry, 7234 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, TN 37909.
