Edith (Marlene) Burns, age 80, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021. She was a member of Cathedral of the Most High Sacred Heart of Jesus. Marlene was retired from the University of Tennessee Department of Conferences. She loved the Vol's, Dollywood, and her cat, Dooley, not necessarily in that order. Marlene was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and giver to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by parents, Robert Lee Pitts and Ophelia Ammons; husband, Eugene Burns; 2 brothers, Clarence and Burt Ammons; 2 sisters, Geraldine Hubbard and Kathleen Wagoner.
Marlene is survived by 4 children, Eugene Burns, Melissa (William) Smalley, Cathy (Greg) Krane and James Burns; 5 grandchildren, Joseph Krane, Amanda Petit, Tabitha Smalley, Paul Krane and Jacob Krane; 2 brothers, Wendall (Viola) Pitts and Robert (Rhonda) Pitts; several nieces, nephews and other family.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920 with a Rosary Service to follow at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021, 10:00 AM at The Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, 711 S Northshore Dr., Knoxville, TN 37919. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701 for a 1:00 PM Committal Service. The family is requesting that masks be worn during the services.
