On July 17, 2007 a beautiful, godly woman – Mary Ann Mitchell – peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus. Mary Ann was born May 30, 1955 to proud parents Charles and Marge Broyles. She grew up in the Colonial Village community in South Knoxville attending Mooreland Heights Elementary and Young High Schools. She secured in 1977 her Bachelors Degree from the University of Tennessee in the field of special education. Mary Ann accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at Colonial Heights Methodist Church where she was an active participant in children’s ministry until her marriage to Lynn Mitchell in August, 1977. While living in Morristown her first child, Angel, was stillborn in 1979. She is now rocking this precious baby in heaven. After moving to Chattanooga, the first and second surviving children, Laura and Bradley were born. After returning to Knoxville in 1984, her other surviving children were born, Jonathan, Ruth Ann, Caleb and Samuel. In 2004, beautiful daughter-in-law, Betsy, joined her family and then last fall the latest joy of her life, Jonah, was born to Brad & Betsy. She is well known in South Knoxville for founding and directing Promises Child Enrichment Center, a place where she could practice her lifelong ministry to children. She has been an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, south for the last 23 years. Friends wishing to give an ongoing memorial in lieu of flowers are encouraged to contribute to the children’s ministry of the church. A praise and worship service in celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held Saturday at 4:00 pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Friends will be received in the sanctuary two hours prior to the service and in the fellowship hall two hours after the service in celebration of Mary Ann’s well known food ministry. A sunset graveside service will then be held at 8:00 pm at Mt. Olive cemetery. A guestbook and additional information is available at www.berryfuneralhome.com and you are invited to share your thoughts and memories of Mary Ann at her memorial website at www.MeM.com.
