Mary was a 1974 graduate of Baptist Nursing School and dedicated her career to serving others in the medical field. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in a variety of healthcare settings, including physicians' offices, hospitals, and nursing homes. Most recently, she served at the Free Medical Clinic alongside Dr. Tom Kim, continuing her lifelong commitment to caring for others.
A devoted member of New Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mary lived her faith through her compassionate service to her community and her unwavering dedication to her family.
Mary was a proud mother of three, grandmother of nine, and great-grandmother of five. Her love extended beyond her human family to the many dogs and cats she welcomed into her home throughout her life, as she was a devoted animal lover and proud pet parent to far too many furry companions to mention.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jodene Farmer.
She is survived by her three children: sons Dennis Farmer and Kenneth Farmer, and daughter Karen Farmer Fletcher. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love, wisdom, and nurturing spirit.
Mary's life was a testament to service, compassion, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched through her nursing career, her devotion to her church, and her boundless love for her family and animal companions.
A receiving of friends and family for Mary will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at New Prospect Presbyterian Church, 4920 Prospect Rd, Knoxville, TN 37920. The family will reconvene at the cemetery for a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Meridian Baptist Church Cemetery, 6500 E Dick Ford Ln, Knoxville, TN 37920.
