

Hudson, Mary Ruth – age 92 of Knoxville, died Monday, May 2, 2016. She was born on October 26, 1923 to James W. T. Davis and Jessie S. Davis. After graduation from Carter High School, and Knoxville Business College she worked as a secretary at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory during World War II. She married her high school sweetheart on July 19, 1945, following his return from military service in Burma. After raising her children, she worked several years as the head secretary for the Dean of the University of Tennessee College of Agricultural. At the age of 67 she obtained her life-long dream of acquiring a college degree, and on December 15, 1990, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Services from the University of Tennessee. She served in her community as a Girl Scout leader, girls’ softball coach, and Sunday School Teacher. She was a good cook, with her specialty being fried okra with potatoes and onions, as noted by any who ate it. Mary was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Harry Edward Hudson, and her brothers Benjamin Hamilton Davis and John Miller Davis. She is survived by her son Harry E. Hudson, Jr. (Angel) of Stockton, CA; daughter Marilyn L. Hudson; son Stephen D. Hudson (Kathy); daughters Lou Ann Hudson and Carol Sue Hudson, all of Knoxville; grandchildren Scott Hudson, Heather Hudson, Jennifer Reed, Kimberly Carter (Brett), and James Radcliff; great-grandchildren Jessica and Amber Ashbrook, Alexis Reed, and Reece and Campbell Carter. A grave-side service to honor her life will be held on Saturday, May 7, at 12:30 p.m. in the Berry Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, preceded by visitation at the Berry Highland Memorial Mortuary on Kingston Pike from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 7.
