Our beautiful cousin Carrie Mildred Mayne Conner all dressed in pink for the Golden Reunion 2017.  See story from Carol that goes with this great picture of Mildred.  I loved this lady a lot!

I met my cousin Mildred back in the early 1990.  I was working on our Golden family genealogy and she was a HUGE help. Mildred's mother was a Golden and she had grown up in the area where our first Goldens settled in Kentucky. First we met at her home on Twin Pines in Knoxville and I met her siblings, together we got acquainted talking about our relatives.  Mildred living near me was a BIG help, her memory was amazing and when I decided to place a fence around the old Golden cemetery  in 1995 Mildred linked me up with family who still lived at Golden Creek, KY who could help, even an old boy friend who had heavy equipment.  Ray, Mildred and I had many chuckles about her old boy friend.  Ray even said he had to go with her to protect her, because she had too many admirers. I loved her spirit and how we always had something we could chat about.  It started with family history and grew to recipes, politics, jobs, flowers, real estate and the list goes on. I tried to reach her right before Christmas 2022 and could not get her to answer the phone.  Then I sent her a Christmas Card saying I was trying to reach her.  I got one back right at Christmas saying she had been busy and would be calling me soon.  Love her heart.  It was so unlike her to not pick up a call. I'll miss our chats and sharing's. Each year when I did the newsletter for the Golden Reunion I'd get a call from Mildred as soon as she had time to read the newsletter and we would talk sometimes for an hour.  See after we got that fence placed around the cemetery it turned into an annual gathering and from 1996-2002 Mildred and her siblings attended the gathering.  In 2005 Ray died and after that Mildred did not get to come again until 2017.  It was so great to have her at the gathering.  I'm sharing the last picture I took of Mildred, taken in 2017 at the Golden Reunion in Kentucky. 

This is the picture of the Stock Creek Baptist ChurchTEL Sunday School Class Christmas party at Mildred’s house in 2006 where Mildred is seated on the front row in the second seat from the left.  We all had a wonderful time of food and fellowship together with Mildred as our hostess.  I had intended to send this picture along with my memory.  

Our sympathy to Mildred’s sons Bob and Jim in the passing of your mother.  She loved her family dearly.  She was very proud of both of you and was so  pleased with the way you looked out for your dad even in your youth because he was severely wounded in battle in service to his country.  Mildred was devoted to her husband, Ray, and spoke very highly of him.  I knew  Mildred from the TEL Sunday School Class at Stock Creek Baptist Church where I served as an assistant teacher for several years.  Mildred was a joy to know and I was impressed with her wisdom and biblical knowledge.  She taught me a lot in the two decades that I knew her.  She was a role model to me in how to face getting older and handling the challenges that come with aging.  Mildred didn’t just know her Bible, she lived according to its teachings.  She loved our class and opened her new home to us in December 2006 for our class Christmas party.  We all had a great time of food and fellowship.  In the picture I am sending of the party, Mildred is seated on the front row.  She is second from the left.  We will all miss her and are sad to see her go.  But we rejoice with her in her home going to her eternal rest with her Lord and Savior and to be with her loved ones already departed.  We love you, Mildred.
