

Pete Franklin Smith, Jr. passed away peacefully, February 13, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born December 10, 1923 in Johnson City, Tennessee and was raised in Jellico, Tennessee. Pete served in the U.S.M.C during WWII as a Tech Sergeant Aun-TN, radio operator - Pacific area, and Restribution Battalion - Camp Lejeune, NC. He graduated from Jellico High School and attended UT where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a member of Lyons Club and Kiwanis. Pete was the former manager of Bobs Package Store with lifelong best friend, Bob Gilbertson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete F Smith, Sr. and Dexter Ruth Perry; wife, Betty Lou Dixon Smith; daughter, Laura Ellen Smith; sister, Mary Ann Martin; brother-in-law, Charles Sager. He is survived by sons, Gary Stephen (Linda Dellatorre), Perry Dixon (Robbie), Brian Scott (Rhonda), and Christopher Hall (Jacqueline); grandson, Brett Colby; brother, Roy (Sue) Smith; sisters, Betty Ruth Sager and Jane Hamrick; sister-in-law, Peggy McElroy, of Indiana; brother-in-law, Dick Dixon, of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, February 17, 2017 for an 11:00am graveside service with Rev. Tim Turley officiating.
