

Roy Gene Rutland, 88, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee, on July 13, 2025. He was born on August 13, 1936, in Cherokee, Alabama, to Roy and Bessie Rutland.
Roy was married to his life long sweetheart, Judy Marie Rutland for 61 years. Roy and Judy had 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who all loved him dearly. He started working on the family's cotton farm when he was a young boy. Roy loved being around his brother's and sisters, which he spoke of often. He left the family farm to serve his country, with honor, in the United States Navy for 20 years with full retirement as a 1st class Petty Officer E6. Following his exemplary military career, Roy dedicated another 20 years to working for the Federal Aviation Administration with whom he earned a second retirement. His life was marked by dedication to his country and his family. He will be fondly remembered for his love of those around him, his loyalty, his sense of humor, his kindness, his giving attitude, his sharp wit, gentle soul and for being such a hard worker for his family.
A service to honor and remember Roy's life will be held at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 4, 2025 at 2:00pm.
