Ruth Ann Thompson "Meme" Brooks

Brooks, Ruth Ann Thompson “Meme”, age 92, of Knoxville, passed away on April 4, 2012 at UT Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Meme loved to work in her yard, take care of her family and always wanted to cook for anyone who visited. These things became difficult for her in the last few years because of her declining health. Ruth was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Norris Freeway, and charter member of OES Starlight Chapter 463. Preceded in death by parents, William and Mattie Thompson, of Tazewell; husband, Joe H. Brooks, former Chief of Detectives for KCSO; brothers, Tom (Bertha), Lee (Hattie), Charlie (Mattie) and Ben Thompson; sisters, Mable Whitmire and Grace Russell; sister-in-law, Peggy Thompson. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Fran Brooks, of Dandridge; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jim Mynatt, of Knoxville; grandson, Dustin Mynatt; granddaughters, Fran Dockins and husband, Greg; and Donna Williams; great-grandson, Harrison Williams, all of Knoxville; brother, Bill Thompson, of Kissimmee, Florida; special niece, Benita (B.J.) Thompson; and daughter by heart Barbara Wolfenbarger, of Knoxville; several other nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Holston Health and Rehab, especially Tiffani and Cristina, for their loving care during mom’s brief stay. Also a huge thanks to the caring and compassionate nurses on the 4th floor, South at UT Hospital. Also, special thanks to Dr. Carringer, UT Hospitalist, UT Palliative Care Staff, Teresa Palmer and Dr. Osterlund, for their compassion not only to Meme, but to her family for helping us with her last days. Also, to Dr. Paul Serrell for taking care of Meme for the past 35 years. The family will receive friends Friday, April 6, 2012 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Hensley and Rev. Burney Hutchison officiating. Following the service family and friends will proceed in procession to Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Norris Freeway, for the interment service.
