Ruth Keller Carnes

Carnes, Ruth Keller, age 86, formerly of the Island Home Neighborhood, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Kindred Nursing Home in Loudon, Tennessee. Ruth was a long time member of Island Home Baptist Church. She graduated from Knoxville High School and U.T. with a B.S. degree in 1948. She began her career as a 1st grade teacher at Beaumont School and taught until her retirement at Oakwood School. The Knoxville Education Association honored her as Distinguished Classroom Teacher for 1973-1974. She was a member of Zeta Chapter of Delta Cappa Gamma. After retirement she worked for Knox County Clerks Office approximately 10 years. She was predeceased by parents, John Albert Carnes Sr. and Mae (Keller) Carnes; brother, John Albert Carnes Jr.; sister-in-law, Hilda Carnes; nephew, Donald Carnes. Survived by nephews, Al (Judy) Carnes and Walter (Susie) Carnes. Family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2013 from 12-2 PM at Berry Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 PM with Rev.
