Ruth L Etter Morrison

Morrison, Ruth Lynn Etter, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Blountville, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. She was a Christian lady who loved the Lord, her church, and family. Ruth’s life was one of caring for others and sharing her love for life with much laughter. She was dearly loved by her friends and family. Ruth spent her early childhood at the John Tarleton Home for Children in Knoxville prior to moving to Blountville to live with William and Rhelda Phillips. After their death she remained a part of the family of Leland and Ella Kate Phillips Holt. In 1955 Ruth married Elbert “Zeb” Morrison and made her home in Knoxville. Ruth was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert “Zeb” Morrison; step-daughter, Linda Joyce Russell; parents, Mattie and Bill Etter; sister, Viola; foster parents, Leland and Ella Kate Holt of Blountville, Tennessee; foster sister, Linda Kay Holt of Blountville, Tennessee. Survivors include her step-daughter, Jonnie Conner; step-son, Charles Morrison; step-grandchildren: Linda Fay Morrison, Daniel Russell, Lisa Braden, Matt Cavender, Lacy Morrison, several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elaine Clark; sisters: Emma Tunnell of Shelton, Washington, Mary Thompson of Roanoke, Virginia, nieces: Kathy Townly and husband, Alan; Janice McFalls and husband, Mark; special nephew, Jason Kinzie and wife, Emily; several great nephews and great-nieces; foster brothers Mike Holt and wife Joan of Blountville, Tennessee; Phillip Holt and wife Lisa of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee foster sister, Jean Holt Fuller and husband Jim of Bluff City, Tennessee; and her beloved dog, Rhoda. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her special friends, neighbor Marcie Ailor and her pastor, Dr. George Hollander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 306 Ogle Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 Noon, Dr. George Hollander officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Morrison, Daniel Russell, Mike Holt, Phillip Holt, Chris Holt, Hunter Holt, Josh Holt, and Ben Holt.
