

Shirley Marvalyn Hartsell Andrews, age 78 passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Shirley Marvalyn Hartsell was born very early in the morning on February 23, 1947 at Knoxville General Hospital to Willodyne Stewart Hartsell and William P. (Bill) Hartsell, Jr.
After graduating with the Austin High School Class of 1964, Shirley attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville pursuing majors in Commercial Art and Political Science. She was the first indigenous woman to work in Graphic Arts at Y- 12 Plant in Oak Ridge retiring after nearly 36 years. During her employment at Y-12 she also became the second woman and the first indigenous woman in Tennessee to join the Tennessee Army National Guard and served for 11 years in Headquarters and Maintenance Companies and an Air Calvary unit.
Preceded in death by brother, Holland Carter; beloved grandmother, Cornelia Keith Hartsell Barger
Johnson; parents, William Payton Hartsell and Willodyne Hartsell; sisters, Dorothy Nell Carter and Juanita
Hartsell Dixon and husband, her best friend and running buddy, Roosevelt Andrews, affectionately referred to as ‘Andy’, who was the most loving, supportive, and dedicated stepfather/grandfather. She
leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Marva Cherie Williams; stepson and daughter-in-law James
and Brenda Andrews; granddaughters, Asheley Williams Kenny, Brittaney Andrews and Jameca (Shawn)
Brothers; grandson Ephraim Zechariah Williams; great grandson Alexander Howdeshell; great granddaughter, Jasmine Brothers; her beloved Stewart and Thompson cousins; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her life and Her light will continue to shine
in the hearts of those she touched. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at
Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Boulevard, Knoxville, Tennessee (by Brown Squirrel). Family and
friends are invited to gather in love and remembrance, with Receiving of Friends from 1:00 to 2:00
p.m., followed by a Memorial Service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
