Shirley Ann Beckett, of Strawberry Plains, TN, passed away October 1, 2023 in her home, at the age of 92, with her daughter by her side. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she volunteered in many positions from teaching the kids, Deaconess, to working with the Good Samaritan Society.
Shirley worked nights as a Nurses Aid for many years at Illini Hospital, mainly on Medical B, but floated wherever there was a need. She taught her daughters to have a love of healing and 2 of them became nurses. She loved to crochet and made many blankets and dolls for friends and family. On Christmas Eve, she would crochet stockings and we would go up in the middle of the night and leave one on every door.
In recent years, Shirley could always be found listening to 3ABN or reading her Bible and knew much of it by heart. Family and friends would call or text to ask where a certain verse could be found. She read the Bible through and highlighted many Bibles throughout her lifetime and states she was still learning or reading something new every day.
Shirley loved her family and loved nothing more than spending time with them. She was often found playing in the living room with them or watching them play outside. To her family, she was the foundation and her loss is deeply felt by anyone who knew her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Troy; parents, Sherman & Mona (Cline) Holdridge; brothers, Philip, Ronald & Bob; daughters, Sharon and Patricia and grandson, Joel. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Holdridge; sons, George (wife Jackie), Darryl, David, John (wife Yolanda), and Ken (wife Deborah); daughter, Kristy (husband Jeff); and grandchildren Matthew, Katie, Dawn, Nathan, Tonashea, Chad, Craig, Tim, Alec, Dominec, Ethan and Gabe. Shirley had 16 great-grandchildren that were the light of her life.
Receiving of friends will be held at Moline Seventh Day Adventist Church @ 3521 53rd St, Moline IL, 61265 on October 19, 2023 at 11am.
