She was born in Harlan, Kentucky on May 16, 1923, the fourth of six children born to Denver and Millie Sergent. After graduating from high school she attended business school in Louisville, Kentucky. She moved to Knoxville and worked for a time at the nuclear facility in Oak Ridge during the secretive war-time days of the Manhattan Project. Thelma met her husband, Jim on a blind date and they were married in 1946. She was a full-time mother and home maker, and later worked full-time at the family business, Linco Distributors, until the early 1990's.
Thelma and Jim enjoyed annual trips to Florida and traveled overseas to Europe. She loved to grow and tend to her flowers around the yard and in the house. Thelma was a long-time member of Chilhowee Baptist Church, where she participated in numerous church activities.
Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, James D. Lindsey; brothers, Byrd and Henry Sergent; sisters, Nette Saylor, Myrtle Metcalf, and Reva Bowman.
Thelma is survived by her two sons, J. Michael (Deborah) Lindsey, Clark (Kerima) Lindsey; grandchildren, Tyler Lindsey and Sarah Lindsey Micic, and three great-grandchildren Madeline and Alex Micic and James A. Lindsey.
