Hi. I knew him as Elvis and he made UT Hospital shine. He always had kind words and prayers. My husband was ill with cancer from June 2004 to June 2014. Most of those years, Elvis kept us smiling. You never know how your life touches others. I just now learned of his passing and the sadness is heavy in my heart. It was good to go to UT and know that while under his care the hospital was a shiny place of care and comfort. I remember going there and not seeing him. I asked about him and felt his absence heavily then. He had moved to another hospital. I remember saying, "Oh, that is UT's loss". Now this is all of our loss but heavens gain. My prayers are with the family during this blessed holiday season. I pray for God's richness to bless you now and forever.

Tom was an extra , extra special person.  So thankful for his testimony and how he cared for each person  that he came in contact with.  Praying for the Lord's comfort in the days ahead.

I met Tom for the first time as a vendor working for UT hospital. My first day there I was completely lost and Tom was quick to guide me and help me find my way around. I worked the hospital 2 days a week over the next 3 years, and I always enjoyed my interactions with Tom! He was a Godly man and a good friend. I know he is with Jesus today!

Tom was very impressive man. Very caring. Being OBEDIENCE  to God. He helped so many with prayer,caring, and love.  Couldn't ask for a better servant to Jesus,  HE was a blessing to many. Praying  for Stephanie and family. 

I first met Tom “Elvis” in 2019 while my son was at UT Hospital for 3 months. What a blessing he was to me. It broke my heart to here of his passing. Tom was the best Elvis impersonator I have ever met. I would smile and say hey Elvis and he would start singing. He was definitely doing the Lords work.  He would pray with you if you asked he would give you a hug and sing any Elvis song you requested. He will surely be missed by many people. I am sure that many came to receive the Lord because of his loving sweet spirit. I will pray for the family. My God bless you all.

We were heartbroken to hear of Tom’s passing. Craig and I ran into Tom several times , while going to the doctor at UT hospital. He was so sweet to just stop what he was doing and ask us if he could pray for us. It meant so much to us. He was so thoughtful and kind. What an encouraging witness for the Lord he was. I worked with Tom for many years at utmc, he was always there for me, helping and praying every day, a great man with a loving heart.

I was undergoing chemotherapy at UTMC and met this wonderful, Christian man. He prayed for me during my cancer battle. He was such a honest, caring soul. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

I loved Tom. I called him Elvis. He was a huge blessing for me at my most vulnerable place in my life. My mother had a massive stroke and was in the ICU fighting for her life. I asked Tom to come sing to her to cheer her up. He came almost the next day. The words couldn't describe how wonderful it was to see how he made my mom's eyes light up. She even asked with her silent voice as she was on a ventilator if that was his real hair. I remember him saying "oh yea, you can touch it!" And I remember her weakly reaching up to feel it and smiling her half smile as the stroke affected her face as it does. He was thanked profoundly by me for what he did.  Everytime I saw him he always stopped what he was doing to give me a real old fashioned hug. The kind that let's you feel loved the rest of that day.  Only he had those kinds of hugs and I am so blessed to have known him. 

Tom was always a bright light and a true angel on this earth!! He will be greatly missed!!

He was a very wonderful man he would do anything for you!!

Tom "Elvis" wasn't just my friend, but my dad when I was at work and my angel at all times. He texted me multiple times through out the day and most EVERY time he sent things he didn't even know I needed at that exact moment. That was God. God used Tom for his glory every single day. Even though my heart is broken over the loss of Tom on earth, I'm so excited that he finally heard the words "your race is run, welcome home my child" He's now singing in our heavenly choir, he is at our saviors side. I'm going to miss Tom for as long as I live, but Oh the day we shall meet again! I can't wait. We never got to meet up again for coffee, but every time I have a white chocolate mocha, I'll think of him. Thank you Tom for your love, support, but mostly for always following God and being an angel for him! I love you ♥

In 2015, I underwent numerous tests at UTMC for a medical issue that eventually had a good outcome. Praise The Lord! However, while I was by myself (and scared) in an MRI waiting room for the first of many tests, a man walked by the door. A glimpse of prominent side burns caught my eye. Several days prior I had seen a news clip about the hospital Elvis. I jumped up from my chair, flew to the doorway, and started calling out to Elvis.  Elvis turned around and came back into the waiting room with me. We chatted briefly about our faith, and he asked me if he could pray for me. Of course! After the prayer, he sang me a hymn. What I know is that The Lord Jesus provided comfort to me in my time of need—and did so in such a beautiful way. Elvis walked me to the door of the MRI and we said goodbye. Months later, I visited UTMC again to retrieve some paperwork. As I rounded the corner in front of a gift shop, there stood Elvis chatting with a man as he rested on his mop handle. He saw me and came straight over to ask how I was doing. I told him all was well and thanked him again for his care and mercy.  He reached into his pocket and handed me his business card.  Finally, Elvis was revealed to be Thomas Cunningham. I will never forget that experience, and I heap praise beyond measure on Tom for fulfilling such a worthy calling! In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us that those who give mercy will get mercy in return. I believe it! And I know The Lord’s Mercy extends to those who loved Tom the most. I pray for all of those whose lives he touched to have comfort and peace in the name of Jesus!

Stephanie and family our continued thoughts a prayers are with you.  It was so great having the pleasure to get to know Tom a little when I first came to valley grove and the last time I saw him he was at UT and we crossed paths while I was dealing with my breast cancer treatments, he stopped what he was working on and prayed with me there in the hallway. He’s certainly one of a kind and and inspiration to us all to be more Christ centered towards others. He will be greatly missed by so many,   

the best Godfather a kid could every have is a prayer warrior you will be missed Stephanie your in our prayers always 

I worked at UT Medical Center and seen Tom almost everyday. He was such a nice man he always had a smile on his face. The patients loved him and he always went out of his way to help anyone. 


I worked with Tom at Utmck he is a great guy and a great friend he will be missed 

I knew Tom from his time at UTMCK. Many times he prayed for me and I saw him praying with others or singing to them to encourage or comfort them. He was a missionary who shared his faith at every opportunity. He will be missed. 

I worked with Tom at utmck . He was a great man, and a blessing to so many people, co worker’s, and friends. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. God Bless.

Tom and I were co-workers at UT and he was such a pleasure to have said I worked beside him and prayed with him also went and got him when PT. would ask if he was there and could I go get him to come and pray with them. That happened more times then I could count..His soul was Godly and very uplifting and I was saddened when he left UT but knew his calling was to move on to another place.i am very blessed to have said I known Tom and will see him agian....God bless his loved ones ..

I do working with Tom add UT Medical Center for 7 years I was there now he belongs to the ages and with the angels in heaven may you rest in peace my friend I will miss you myself I know you're up there singing with Elvis I know you're singing Burning Love may he rest in peace

I met Tom at a friends birthday and he was the sweetest man. I was impressed by his talent but his love for Jesus stole my heart. God blessed this earth with his presence. He fought the good fight and has won the ultimate reward. Face to face with our Jesus. What a party at heavens gate.

Tom is a wonderful man of God, and My best Buddy forever !! He worked with me at UT,  and We both left UT for the same reason !! Tom prayed for me and he taught me to live again !! Love Him forever my Angel of Light !! Prayers for all his family, Love and Comfort to his Wonderful wife Stephanie and his Beautiful Daughter Sarah!!

My father loved the gospel music of Elvis all his life. As he lay dying that which had brought him so much joy in his life came to him through the incredible vessel of God’s love who was Tom Cunningham.

Tom and his beautiful wife Stephanie came to my home and we gathered around my father’s hospice bed where we sang and prayed together. These incredible people gave my father joy, peace and a brief respite from his pain and suffering. Two days later my father was gone but the love, support, encouragement, shared faith and friendship continued through the years. That too was Tom Cunningham. The living water I needed in the desert.

My heart aches for Stephanie, Sarah and his family. May God strengthen and carry you.

The very last words Tom shared with me were “Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me”.  HE has led you my cherished friend. HE has led you Home. Love you eternally


You will be missed!  I cant tell you how many times "Elvis" prayed for my family members,  right there in the lobby of UT.  How many lives he touched!  We were blessed to know him!  Stephanie,  you and your family are in our prayers!


Tom was such a great friend, a praying friend!  He had the incredible gift of making you feel like you were the best of friends!  The scriptures he sent to me and my husband were just what we needed at the right time!  I just know when he met Jesus, Jesus said well done my good and faithful servant!  He will be missed! Tom was a great friend and a man that loved the Lord. It showed in everything he did. I know he's entertaining the multitudes in heaven. Prayers for his family. 🙏❤️

I will miss Tom dearly. When he left UTMC, I made a point to find him at BMH when my sister was there for a procedure. He was so happy and loved his work and the people there.  He was always so encouraging and had an uplifting word to say to me. He also prayed with me there at UTMC. He will be missed by so so many. What a great legacy he has left! That is all he wanted to do was to be used by God and that he did!

When I worked at UT it was always a blessing to see Tom’s smiling face and kind words. It was a wonderful way to start the work day. He was a wonderful ambassador for UT and Blount Memorial. He will be greatly missed by so many. 

This obituary caught my eye. This man is near my age and looks so familiar to me. When I read his obituary,  I can see why. He was a larger than life, caring personality and I'm sure I've seen him before. Sending much love and prayers to the friends and family grieving for your unique and outgoing loved one.

A lady was going home. She was discharged on Hospice care. 
She asked Tom to sing for her   He sang Amazing Grace and prayed with her. 
I will never forget the sweet smile on her face. 
That day has stood out in my mind. That sweet lady and her daughter got a blessing that day. 
I’m sure Tom that God said to you Well done your work on earth is finished. 
Praying for the family. 

I was UTMC sitting in lounge, a little lady had been put in Hospice care and daughter was taking her home. 
She asked Tom to sing a song for her he sang Amazing Grace and then prayed with her. 
I will never forget the sweet smile on her face and the joy that was given to her and daughter. 
He was a great Christian man . I’m sure he got a job well done from God.
