William Bill Thomas Hood

Hood, William Thomas, “Bill”, age 92, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Mercy Residential Hospice surrounded by his loving family. In order to support his family, he was employed by the CCC at an early age. Afterwards, he enlisted in the Army prior to WWII. He participated in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day as a member of Battery A, 5th Field Artillery Battalion. During that time he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism. For the duration of the war, he followed General Patton through Europe and into Germany. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden. Bill was previously employed by Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee and the City Board of Education. He is preceded in death by wife of seventy years, Ruth Davenport Hood; parents, Seth and Mary Hood; son-in-law, K W Hill; brothers: Joe and Brownlow Hood; sisters, Edna Wilhoite, Augusta Jett , Irene Miller and Marcella Mikles. Bill is survived by his daughters, Billie Hood Brewer and husband, Jim; Glenda Hood Hill; and Janie Hood Wheeler and husband, Charlie; grandchildren: Craig Brewer and wife Sandi; Angie Jacobs and husband, Ben both of Georgia; Kenda Lynch and husband Kevin of Karns; Kacey Hill of Harriman; Stacey Given and husband Nicholas Mason of Knoxville; Jacob Wheeler of North Carolina; great-grandchildren: Kayla White, Devin and Madison Lynch, Camryn and Cole Given, Olivia, Sophie, and Isabelle Brewer, Jessica, Amanda, and Megan Jacobs; sisters, Janie Thomas and Huella Miller; brothers, Caswell and Seth Hood, Jr.; special sisters-in-law, Nora Bell Hood and Blanche Davenport Miller; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM, Rev. Guy Milam officiating. Family and friends will meet at Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday at 11:00 AM for the interment.
