Albert Dean Lewis was born March 7, 1947, and passed away March 15, 2026, at the age of 79. A resident of Kokomo, Indiana, Albert carried himself with an honest, patient, selfless, and devoted spirit that quietly shaped the lives around him. From the simplest everyday moments to the memories that will be told and retold, his life leaves behind a steady imprint of love, responsibility, and care.
After first introducing him, most knew him as Dean—a man who showed up, stood firm, and gave of himself without fanfare. He served in the U.S. Army, then worked at Chrysler before retiring in 2005. Even in retirement, his sense of purpose remained; he worked as a crossing guard for several years, offering not only watchful protection but a familiar presence that helped mornings feel safer and afternoons feel brighter.
Dean found joy in riding his motorcycle, embracing the open road with the same calm confidence he carried into daily life. Yet some of his most lasting adventures were closer to home—where he made ordinary streets feel like a small community bound together by kindness. Every Friday, he handed out candy and popsicles to the neighborhood kids when they got off the bus. He even created a cart for his riding lawn mower so he could haul kids up and down the street, turning a simple ride into a memory that will live on in laughter. In service beyond his neighborhood, Dean was Commander of the American Legion Post 177 in 1987, honoring fellowship and duty in the way he lived them. In the hearts of many, he was simply “everybody’s grandpa.”
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Otto Lewis; his mother, Kathleen Lewis; his sisters, Mavis Scott, Vettrajune Ford, and Elaine Staton; his brother, Otto Lewis Jr.; and his niece, Michelle Morgan.
Dean is survived by his wife, Goldie Lewis; his children, Albert Dean Lewis Jr., Tony Lewis (Petra), Cornelius Lewis, DaJuan White (Antonio), and Tania White; his siblings, Harry Donald Lewis, Peggy Kennedy, Samuel Eugene Ford, Jesse Dixon, and Yolanda Denise Ford; as well as many grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902, on March 20, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm.
