

Bennette E. Lewis, better known to friends and family as Gene or Geno, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on October 16, 2010, at 9:59 p.m. He was born October 1, 1934, to Bennette Lewis and the former Hazel Woods. He married Patricia Mendoza on January 19, 1961.
Gene worked at Haynes International for 38 years and retired in 1992. He was in the US Army during what is now known as the “Cold War”. He was a man who liked being busy. He gardened, painted with water colors, built furniture, and he enjoyed beading earrings, bracelets, and anything else he dreamed up. He was interested in everything and enjoyed every day of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Bennette E. Lewis III and his wife Sherrie, and Patrick Lewis and his wife Melissa, all of Kokomo; five grandchildren, Patrick Lewis II, Iowa, Megan Johnson and her husband Karl, Seaside, California, Bennette Lewis IV, and Shaun Lewis, Indianapolis, and Alyssa Lewis, Kokomo; sister, Kathie, South Bend; and a huge family of cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law whom were well loved by him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Robert Huddleston.
Services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.
