

Carolyn was born on March 8th, 1944 to parents William Robert and Hazel Juanita (née Chadwell) Pugh in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After Carolyn graduated from Kokomo High School, Kokomo (Indiana) in 1962, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 and a Master of Arts degree in 1971 (both from Indiana University, Bloomington).
After graduating from IU, Carolyn entered the workforce. Carolyn spent much of her working career at Stokely-Van Camp and later Caldwell-VanRiper, as Director of Marketing, before becoming the Director of Corporate and Community Affairs at the Indianapolis Star. During her decades-long career in marketing, Carolyn broke many glass ceilings and showed her friends and family what a strong, intelligent woman could accomplish in the workforce. During her very productive career, she received many industry awards. She was a role model to many.
On the 25th of January, 1969, Carolyn married Irvin Rodney “Rod” Wolfcale, who tragically passed away on the 12th of April, 1970 after an extended illness. On February 9, 1974 Carolyn married James “Jim” Donald Foust. On November 23rd, 1980, Jim and Carolyn welcomed a daughter, Rebecca, into the world.
Carolyn was a passionate woman with many interests. For many years, she was an avid birdwatcher and gardener. She could often be found with a trowel in hand. As a proud patron of the arts, she also greatly enjoyed attending concerts, operas, and plays. Carolyn traveled extensively throughout her life, where she enjoyed art, history, and architecture. Carolyn also adored reading. She particularly enjoyed books on history and religion. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis for many years.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, husband Irvin “Rod” Wolfcale, daughter Rebecca Elizabeth Winton (née Foust), and brother, Major (Ret.) Robert C. Pugh. She is survived by her sisters, Carmen (Greg) Anderson of Idaho Falls ID, Rebecca Corbitt of Las Vegas NV, Sister-in-law Donna K. Pugh of Colorado Springs CO, stepchildren Sheryl (Tim) Morgan of Azle TX, Bill (Amy) Foust of Azle TX and their children, Son-in-law Kyle Winton of Greenwood IN, grandsons Benjamin Helton of New York NY, and Brennan Guilkey of Greenwood IN, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kokomo on Thursday, July 3rd at 2:00 pm. The address is 1300 E. North St. Kokomo, IN 46901. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis, IN, an organization with a mission that Carolyn felt strongly about.
