Duane Kent Lay

Duane Kent Lay, age 71, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his residence. Duane was born on September 21, 1952 in Logansport, IN to the late Charles and Carolyn (Kline) Lay. He married Sue (Pickard) Lay on June 18, 2010 in Kokomo, and she survives.

After graduating from Kokomo High School, he was in the United States Army, where he served his country as radio operator in Korea. After his time in the military, he was a manager for Wake Up gas station for many years. Duane later began working for Chrysler where he retired after 30 years. He was a member of the UAW #685. He was also a member of Reach Church. Duane enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing golf.

Surviving is his wife, Sue; two daughters from his first marriage to Margaret Lay, Jodie Lay and Jennifer Reyes; five grandchildren, Carolyn (Drew) McKee, Alex Reyes, Adrian Reyes, Trista Nance, and Hanna Pittman; three great-grandchildren, Leland McKee, Delanie McKee, and Morgen McKee; two step-children, Tammy (Tim) Bartley and Andy (Julie) Mullens; three step-grandchildren, Thomas (Courtney) Bartley, Rohan Bartley, and Tate Mullens; one step-great-grandchildren, Vincent Bartley; one sister, Vicki Williams; and one brother, John (Linda) Lay; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sherry Lay.

There is a time of visitation for Duane on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. Pastor Brian Hughes will be officiating. Burial will follow to Albright Cemetery with full military rites performed by the United States Army and the VFW Post 1152 Military Rites Team.
