

Elsie Madeline Roma, 91, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on August 27th at the Waterford Health Campus. She was born on July 17, 1925 in Crystal City, Missouri to Carlo and Catherine (Strim) Scola. Her family moved to Kokomo in 1928. She married Anthony "Tony" Roma on August 9, 1947, who preceded her in death.
Elsie graduated from Kokomo High School in 1943 and the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1946. She began her nursing career at Paterson General Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. After her marriage to Tony she worked at St. Joseph Hospital and the local office of Dr. Alt in Kokomo. She spent her last 15 years as a nurse working at Delco Electronics and retired from nursing in 1980. After retiring, she volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for many years.
She was a charter member of the Wm. PACA Lodge in Logansport, and also a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Good Samaritan-Holy Cross Nurses Alumni, DANK German Club and the Cassville Lions Club.
Elsie is survived by her sister Libera "Bebe" and brother-in-law Joe Orth of Trenton, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her dear caretakers Cindy Rohaly and family, Peggy Land, and Bonnie Wolff.
Elsie never met a stranger and enjoyed the company of many good friends throughout her life. She was appreciative of all their help, especially the Sisters of St. Joseph at Tipton for the wonderful example they set for her as a nurse. She was very proud of being a nurse and one of her greatest joys was seeing to the needs of her patients! She also loved a good Polka and had a sense of humor that always brought a laugh.
Preceding her in death were her husband, both parents, and a brother.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church from 9-11AM, Friday, September 2nd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated also at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Kokomo, Indiana on September 2nd at 11AM with Fr. Matthew Arbuckle presiding. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery in Kokomo.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Cassville Lions Club or St. Vincent Hospice.
