Gene Allen Pratt, age 76, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2016, in St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends taking turns holding his hands, stroking his head and singing. Gene passed peacefully and quietly, just like he had lived. Gentle and unassuming, he was Genie Boy to everyone who knew and loved him.
Born in Swayzee, Indiana, May 30, 1939, Gene was the third child of Thomas Richard "Dick" and Glendora "Dorie" (Lyons) Pratt. On February 28, 1970, he married Rose Anna Rogers. Gene and Rose had two daughters, Rebecca “Becky” and Kristina “Kris”.
Gene attended Central Grade School and Kokomo High School. He was a US Air Force veteran and a basketball--really, an all-sports--aficionado. He loved his Indiana Hoosiers and Indianapolis Colts.
Gene retired from Delco Systems Division of General Motors in 1999, with forty-four years service. Working in several departments over the years, he made many lifelong Delco friends. He was a proud member of UAW 292.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Robert Pratt, Vicki (Pratt) Parson, Carey Pratt, and Sheri Pratt.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Pratt; his daughters, Rebecca (Pratt) Rubenalt and Kristina Pratt; his grandchildren, Anissa Rubenalt, Ashley Carney (Justin), Amber Perkins, Nicholas Colõn, Willow Fearnow, Grayson Fearnow, and Ethan Fearnow; his great-grandchildren, Axton, Emerson, and Nora; and his siblings, Thomas Pratt (Lynn), Pat Hudson (Bob), Kathryn (Pratt) Rogers, and Rina Pratt (Bob Huffman).
Gene Allen Pratt’s gentle ways will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Pratt Family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of the 2nd Floor and ICU at St. Vincent Hospital, as well as Dr. Diane Pfeifer, for their loving care for Gene. A celebration of Gene’s life will be on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 1 PM at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, with visitation from 11 AM until service time. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. A tribute to Gene’s life may be viewed online at www.sunsetmemorygarden.com, where condolences may be shared with his family.
